THE SNAKE MONUMENT
This painting portrays the cave dwelling of Umm Gersom, carved into the ancient stone beside the Snake Monument behind the Siq in Petra — a place that once became my temporary home. I lived there with the Bedouin, waking to the gentle sound of goats passing in the cool morning light and falling asleep beneath a vast blanket of stars on the cave’s rooftop. The rhythm of desert life, the warmth of shared hospitality, and the timeless presence of the sandstone cliffs shaped every moment I spent there. Painted on location in Petra, this work is both a memory and a tribute — a visual echo of quiet nights, shifting colours, and the profound simplicity of living within the heart of an ancient landscape.
